Միջազգային օլիմպիական կոմիտեի նախագահ Թոմաս Բախը պաշտոնապես հայտարարել է խաղերի փակման մասին:
Օլիմպիական խաղերն տեղի ունեցան հուլիսի 23-ից օգոստոսի 8-ը: Կորոնավիրուսի համավարակով պայմանավորված խաղերը 2020 թվականից տեղափոխվել էին 2021 թվական։
Տոկիոյի խաղերում խաղարկվել է 339 մրցանակ: Մեդալների ընդհանուր հաշվարկում ԱՄՆ-ի հավաքականը գրավել է առաջին տեղը ՝ նվաճելով 39 ոսկե, 41 արծաթե և 33 բրոնզե մեդալ: Երկրորդ տեղում Չինաստանն է (38-32-18), ապա` Ճապոնիայի (27-14-17) և Մեծ Բրիտանիայի (22-21-22) հավաքականները: Ռուսաստանի հավաքականը մեդալների հաշվարկում զբաղեցրել է հինգերորդ տեղը ՝ նվաճելով 20 ոսկե, 28 արծաթե և 23 բրոնզե մեդալ:
Օլիմպիական խաղերի փակման արարողությունն անց է կացվել Տոկիոյի Ազգային մարզադաշտում:
Համավարակի պատճառով օլիմպիական խաղերն անց են կացվել առանց արտասահմանյան երկրպագուների:
